BIBLE VERSE : For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. James 3:2
LIFE POINT:
Our words are powerful. With our words, we can encourage or discourage, heal or hurt, build or destroy. James teaches us that controlling our tongue is one of the greatest signs of spiritual maturity.
The Bible says, If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man. This does not mean that a person is completely without fault. Rather, it speaks of someone who has learned to exercise self-control over their speech.
THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK: Many problems begin with words spoken in anger, frustration, or haste. Before you speak, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it edifying?
LET YOUR WORDS BUILD, NOT DESTROY: Proverbs 18:21 says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Your words can give someone courage to continue when they are ready to give up. Choose words that bring grace, hope, and encouragement.
CONTROL YOUR TONGUE.
James connects control of the tongue with control of the whole body. When the Holy Spirit helps us discipline our speech, He also helps us discipline our actions, emotions, and conduct.
SPEAK WORDS THAT AGREE WITH GOD. Instead of constantly declaring defeat, speak God’s promises over your life. Instead of saying, “I cannot make it, remember that God gives you strength. Let your mouth become an instrument of faith.
Child of God you may not be able to control everything that happens around you, but by God’s grace, you can control how you respond and what comes out of your mouth.
Before you speak, pause. Before you react, pray. Before you condemn, remember grace.
May God give us the wisdom to control our tongues, the grace to speak life, and the maturity to use our words to glorify Him.
Hallelujah to the Lamb of God
PRAYERS
Father, in the name of Jesus, give me the grace to control my tongue. Help me to speak words that bring life, healing, wisdom, and encouragement. Deliver me from careless, angry, and destructive words. Let my mouth always glorify You and bless others. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
